podcast mini-series for you!

There are always two kinds of stories in every family.

The ones we tell…
…and the ones we don’t.

Growing up, you likely learned—without anyone explicitly saying it—what was safe to share and what wasn’t. What stayed at the dinner table. What never left the house. What we “just don’t talk about.”

And maybe even more subtly…what you weren’t supposed to feel, name, or question.

These are the stories we protect.

The stories that induce shame, fear, trauma, and pain.

We keep them tucked away.
We minimize them.
We rewrite them.
Or we carry them quietly—sometimes for years (or decades).

What I've learned from my own journey and so many of my clients is… the stories we protect are often the very ones that are shaping us the most.

They show up in our anxiety.
In our relationships.
In the way we second-guess ourselves.
In the way we shrink, stay silent, or over-function.

And yet…

There is another kind of story.

The ones that heal us.

These aren’t always loud or dramatic stories.

They may sound like:
➜ “That actually really impacted me.”
➜ “I’ve never said this out loud before…”
➜ “I think I’ve been carrying this longer than I realized.”

When we begin to gently name our stories (the good and the bad)—not with blame, but with clarity—something shifts.

Old shame starts to loosen.
Anxiety begins to make more sense.
And we start to feel a little more like ourselves again.

I'm sure as you're reading, you're thinking of some of those stories. Maybe the good ones… the stories that led to your healing and wholeness. Maybe the bad ones, the ones that you keep tucked away.

This is what writing Invisible Inheritance required of me… exploring and rooting out the good and the bad stories.

And… something new I haven’t shared here yet!

Over the past month, I quietly launched a mini podcast series leading up to the book release: Legacy Work with Dr. Nicole Thaxton

Each short episode is a behind-the-scenes look at the book—the stories, the process, and the deeper layers we don’t always see on the page.

This book is the culmination of ten years of both professional work and personal healing, and it’s all about understanding anxiety through the lens of the stories we carry and the legacies we’ve inherited.

I’ll leave you with this:

You don’t have to tell every story.

But the ones you choose to face, to name, and to hold with honesty…

Those are the ones that begin to set you free.

I speak to leaders, parents, and (small and large) organizations about emotional endurance, work-life blend, high-functioning anxiety, and sustainable leadership.
